Project Reflection

Looking back at this project, I believe that I was able to learn a lot about how to design scripted events, puzzles and set up combat encounters to create a cohesive Half Life 2 experience which does showcase all the skills I wanted to.

Working on creating the puzzles was useful as it got me to think about how I could make something intuitive enough for the player to understand, yet challenging enough to be interesting. Learning how to make scripted events was also very useful, and I think that having them in the level has really helped to make the experience feel more emotive.

My other main goal was to create something which I could use as a portfolio piece. While I feel that the level could be more polished if I had more time, I am confident that it is refined enough and that I have achieved the user experience I wanted to within the time limit. Especially considering this is my first time using Hammer.

There were certainly some growing pains through troubleshooting and getting used to using Hammer, however this has only helped me to learn things that will help speed up development on future projects.
